The Russian authorities decided to slow down and threatened to block Twitter completely in a month if the service does not comply with the requirements for the removal of so-called "prohibited information". And today, the editor-in-chief of the main propaganda channel Russia Today (RT), which broadcasts abroad, suggested going even further and banning all foreign social networks in Russia altogether.
This opinion was expressed by Margarita Simonyan in an interview with Moscow Radio station "Govorit Moskva". She called foreign social networks "an instrument of war against Russia" and compared them to tanks."Foreign social networks, which are an instrument of war against Russia, which are weapons, should be closed. No one lets enemy tanks into their country - it's idiotic! But we did" - she said.
According to Simonyan, it is easy to replace foreign social networks with domestic analogues. She recalled that Russia was the first country that created "the best vaccine in the world", so it will be much easier to cope with such a less ambitious task.
As the editor-in-chief of RT stated, our country should have "its own social networks, its own platforms, its own operating systems, its own gadgets."
It can be assumed that the response of the West to such an exotic appeal from one of the leaders of Russian propaganda will not take long to wait, and there may also raise the question of the presence of "RTanks" in their countries. And then where will RT broadcast in English, German, French, Spanish? Exclusively in Russian social networks?
By the way, Margarita Simonyan herself has an Instagram page with almost two thousand publications.
